(F)amily (H)ome (E)vening!!

So for FHE we talked about and made SCRIPTURE JOURNALS!

Tres came home early and made homemade pizza with all the kids helping. It was a scene out of the movies, Tres even tossed the pizza in the air! We were having too much fun to stop and take picts of it! opps!
Then we talked about 1 Nephi 19:23 about "liken"-ing scriptures unto us....finding how each story can apply in our lives.
Well, here's what the journals turned out like:
Elder Richard G. Scott said "We often leave the most precious personal direction of the Spirit unheard because we do not record and respond to the first promptings that come to us when the Lord chooses to direct us."
also
Elder Neal A. Maxwell said' "The prompting that goes unresponded to my not be repeated.  Writing down what we have been prompted with is vital.  A special thought can be lost later in the day through the rough and tumble of life.  God should not, and may not, choose to repeat the prompting if we assign what is given such a low priority as to put it aside."

We had a good night!

Now, on to another part of this story... I always play a song for FHE but couldn't bc something was weird with the piano. You'd push down a key and 8 keys would play!!!
Time to get my handygirl tool belt on!
Here's a picture showing you something cool about most pianos...you normally write inside them each time they are tuned, the earliest date will tell you almost exactly when the piano was made:

So here's the culprit!! Somehow Mr.Pencil fell down into the lion's den.
Got him out, checked everything over, determined Mr.Piano was totally unharmed and, wallah, crisis averted!

Putting it together again!  Go me!

Before I close I just have to pop in a favorite verse or 2 from the Holy Bible and let's see if we can "Liken" it us as Nephi suggested;
It's in James 1:22-27 he was teaching on how to spot a true religion as he was establishing a church which was something Christ had told him to do.... for me, this was also about not forgetting those things we believe 5 minutes after leaving church on Sunday:

22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the cfatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Here's some questions;   just food for thought, please don't comment on the answers so others can find it for themselves which is the only way we truly learn:

  1. Who or what is "the world'?
  2. How does the world "spot" us?
  3. What types of sin does the world; try, promote, push, entice & allure to spot us with?
  4. Can sin really darken our souls with ugly spots of sin making it harder to feel God's love for us and find His will for us or did James just mention this just as a good but impractical suggestion?
  5. Does your religion/beliefs teach you to not only do have compassion and service for others but provide ways in which you can serve others (especially those in need) daily?
  6. If you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior and any of these questions offend, bother or hurt your heart... why?
