Happy Mother's Day!!

So tomorrow is Mother's day and to tell my mom what a wonderful person she is I made a few things..
Abby and I every year make a craft together for her grandmas but this year we expanded to aunts as well. They are hair flowers if you were wondering...plus a random pink bow Abby made which totally astonished me.
..and yes there was much stifling of her creative genius because LET ME TELL YA, they were never done! She was gonna have 4 inch ribbons dangling down from them with glitter and paste. So I stepped in and said probably not.
I know, I am such a controlling mom.
Then I made my Mom this scripture tote. Both the fabrics were a remnant at Joanne's and I was able to make 2 so this purse was $3.00 to make (but we aren't counting the hour it takes to sew).
a little Factoid on me:
I hate using patterns for some reason. So that's why I only sew the kind of stuff you can think up in your head...aprons, bags, pillows, straight curtains and skirts. Complete w/ pockets inside...

Then here is my sad tale of woe...this was originally supposed to be a scripture bag per request of Sage and a Scripture tote for my mom, but alas I sewed the pockets upside down in the tote so It's my freaky semi-cute tote.

The saddest part of all was this ribbon braid and the handle stitching that took FOREVER!!! I love you sooo sooo sooo much mom, but I seriously couldn't "handle" even thinking of doing that again!!!

Maybe someday, When I don't sew things upside down, I'll sell these kind of things on etsy...yeah..Like maybe when ALL my kids are in school...ahh to dream

Girl.... even if you sewed the pockets upside down.... just think what you could do "if" you would just use a pattern!!! Give yourself a break... if you don't use patterns cause you think it stifles "your creativity" think of it this way... you them for a jumping off point that points you in the direction of what you want to accomplish.... one day your little girls are gonna want you to make their prom dresses!
Great fabric/bag by the way.... just cut open the top of the pockets and maybe baste or hand sew the pockets... it will still work! Aunt Jean

Thanks Aunt Jean!
I generally don't use patterns not because I think they are holding me back but because I have bought tons of them and I always seem to have to keep rebuying them and on projects that I've done a hundred times it's just another step I'd rather skip. It's all about doing stuff fast. It's also why things get turned upside down pattern or no because I want things done right now and I don't take my time. (Especially because I have 2 babies that need me and would love to get into my sewing stuff if I did take too long.)
but rest assured I have a HUGE box of like a million patterns and I would use them if I were making prom dresses or something very difficult.
I am actually going to repair the purse by taking the handels off and bottom out and switching them, I just didn't want to try and give myself a deadline when mother's day was nearly here. It's easier to sew something new than to unpick and repair so that's why I decided to make another.
