What do these words mean to you?
{ foot, drink, hands up,
Grant, car, eyes,
stand, ear, drink,
tongue, eat, jump, smile }
Well to me they mean a lot.
They are the 14 words that my 3 year old Grant can totally sight read!! Each week he has added 2 words. It's a well known fact that we utilize phonetics to first sound out words but eventually the human mind memorizes words instead of sounding them out each time. (In the video you can see that I also have a stack of yellow phonograms that we will cover too, so I'm covering both bases.)
We first did actions with the words and now we only say them but every now and again he still does the actions. Also he had to change from saying
"My name" when he saw "Grant" to saying the word itself. Also when he saw the word "drink" he used to say "water". Just goes to show that we both are learning how to do this as we go.
Here's a short clip of Grant doing his thing.
Abigail was filming so it's a bit hard to hear over the squeaky tripod. Sorry!
I just wanted to see if those infomercials for "My Baby Can Read" were realistic or not. We will see as I plan to do picture cards with Kaden as well. I didn't buy the system. I just watched enough of the different infomercials to get the gist of it.
I already have all these blank cards so I though why not? I only do it with him every other day for about 10 minutes then we move on to writing and a craft.
Grant was a good subject for my little test because he is so willing to learn.
He is simply a wonderful 3 year old boy!!!
and in other news... Zack got his 20 mile marker medallion!!
The Walk Run Jog club meets on Mondays and Wednesdays during only the cooler months. The second semester club just ended and I so proud of Zack for reaching his personal goal!
Great Job!

Go boys!
Wow I'm totally impressed, I need to get on the Ball with Cameron I don't think he can even Identify more than 2 letters correctly, let alone words.
Congratulations to Zack for his achievement! Also great job with Grant. I think almost all of the kids in my family learned to read pre-k thanks to my parent's commitment to scripture reading. We would each have to read at least one verse each night, and even if you couldn't read it then mom or dad would help you by saying each word first as you followed their finger and repeated it.
"And verily, verily I say unto you, all of the sons, and all of the daughters of Dan and LaRee were exceedingly great in the reading of the word of the Lord, even unto the youngest, though she were just a babe in her mothers arms."
that's awesome! Weston was totally intrested in numbers and letters at that age and wanted to read, Karen however could have cared less even though she could copy any word you wrote down for her. She could write everyones names in the family before Weston mastered his own.
