Back in a day, I was a member of the FFA.
Laugh if you must but it was through them that I got a scholarship.
Anyhoo,
If you decide to raise show animals for the fair in the FFA, you have to go to the school over holidays and make sure they are fed. Having no regulations on how or when this is done made me feel like it would be all too easy for someone to just grab you, shove you into the greenhouse and... you get the idea. To my horror it almost happened to a local girl Friday.
My thoughts and prayers are with her and I hope she can one day go outside and feel safe again. I am proud of her for doing what it took to get loose.

GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) -- Gilbert police announced Friday night the arrest of a man wanted for an attempted sexual assault at Gilbert High School Christmas night. Gilbert police say 43 year-old James Alvin Duke allegedly tried to sexually assault a female student tending animals housed at the school. Police say the alleged victim fought off her attacker and even stabbed the suspect in the chest with a key. Police say the suspect fled the scene leaving behind his vehicle. Duke allegedly stole a semi tractor trailer truck which was recovered in north Phoenix. Surveillance was set-up in north Phoenix and police say Duke was taken into custody as he was attempting to leave the Phoenix area Friday afternoon. Gilbert police say Duke is a registered sex offender. He was booked into Maricopa County Jail on attempted sexual assault, theft of means of transportation and attempted kidnapping.
